The seventh International Conference of the Arab Society for Computer Aided Architectural Design ASCAAD 2014 will be organised by Effat University - Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. ASCAAD is a society of those who teach and conduct research in computer-aided architectural design (CAAD) in schools of architecture in the Arab region of West Asia, and North Africa. ASCAAD is also active in Central Asia, Sub-Sahara Africa, and the Mediterranean. ASCAAD is one of five sister organisations in CAAD worldwide that share the same mission: ACADIA (North America, founded 1981), eCAADe (Europe, founded 1983), CAADRIA (Asia, founded 1996) and SIGraDi (Ibero-America, founded 1997). There is also CAADFutures foundation but with a world wide scope.

In decades past, the architect was the master-builder with hands-on craftsman experience to design and direct every trade in the construction of the building. The role of digital design computation methodologies and processes are poised to transform how we think and craft architecture to deliver today's built environment. Digital crafting methods in today's thinking process for a designer/builder/manufacturer are affecting the delivery of buildings as a final product with aspiration to create rich sensory and habitable environments.

ASCAAD 7th Conference theme is exploring the linkages among digital design process thinking, constructability, the digital manufacturing process and their impact on the practice of architecture, engineering and construction. However, through digital design computation process, one would notice that the traditional master-builder design thinking approaches are still strongly implemented in processes such as: object making, digital fabrication, design-to-fabricate, parametric technology, BIM, machining, manufacturing analysis, building performance analysis. This evolution has combined the ability of fine crafted detailing with digital design and manufacturing and put a shift towards seamless collaboration between design and construction.

ASCAAD society and committee welcome you to join us and participate in its seventh international conference ASCAAD 2014. With involvement of researchers and professionals in the architectural community, it will be possible for ASCAAD to facilitate communication and information exchange regarding the use of Computer-Aided Architectural Design and Information Technology and how the use / implementation would support and lead to innovative concepts, tools, systems and products on architectural, Urban/City/regional planning, and building science levels. The conference provides opportunities for participants from many fields to share their ideas and contributions.
